Jive talkin'

2007 Grammy nods are out. I really hope Justin doesn't win one. Nothing against JT, but FutureSex/LoveSounds totally sucks as an album. Its much worse than Justified, which I was totally disappointed with considering I think JT has a lot of potential as a stand alone artist. But at least with Justified, you could listen to the songs over and over without wanting to kill yourself. Listen to the opening bars of Sexy Back and I dare ya not to gag...

I hope John Mayer wins everything he was nominated for... ok, maybe he could lose one... it would serve him right for going out with that bimbo Jessica.

I hope The Fray win one for "Over My Head"... that is such a great song.

Why aren't Scissor Sister nominated for Best Dance Recording?!?! "I don't feel like dancing"! Hello?? Can you say 'quintessential dance track'? ... maybe they missed the cut....

Why isn't Gavin DeGraw ever nominated for anything? I feel like he's that overlooked artist who's incredibly passionate about his stuff and yet doesn't get any credit for it... Download "Belief" and tell me he doesn't deserve a Grammy...

Pray with me, people, that The Killers will get their Grammy this year. When You Were Young is such a great song. Its no 'Blame it on the boogie', but its up there... They should have been nominated for the album too... Sam's Town is killer... no pun intended.

..... ok, that's weird, I just googled Gavin DeGraw for the link and my blog popped up....

For your enjoyment... I'm gonna go old, old school on yo ass:

Read. Its the only thing in life worth doing.

Skunk! This is for you. Its the video I was rambling on about in my last post. Cold War Kids, We used to vacation. I don't know why, but it seems like the kind of song you would like... I know that's weird considering I don't know you or your taste in music, but there it is... Enjoy!

There was some awful news in the paper today, which isn't saying much considering the news these days has two volumes; awful and awful-ler(?)... more awful. But this was really bad.

Apparently, they found 14 horse carcasses thrown out into the big sandy lot that sits beside the Hunting and Equestrian Club just outside of 6th ring road. This really says a lot for the level of professionalism here in Kuwait, doesn't it? The fact that the very facility whose job it is to care for these animals ends up dumping their bodies like yesterdays' trash. Apparently, the horses hadn't been shot, but appeared to have been euthenized, the horses were 2-5 years old. This just makes my blood boil. I mean, aside from it being completely inhumane, its also a public health issue. The last thing we need is 14 dead horses rotting in the sun next to residential areas. The Equestrian club should be shut down or fined drastically for this unbelievably shameful act.

Another article in the paper today was talking about education in Kuwait and the Arab world as a whole. Dr. Latefa Al-Kandari, a professor at Kuwait University, blamed unqualified teachers for the decline of education standards in Kuwait. I'll agree with that, but it is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the things that are wrong with the public school system. I am a product of that system and I shudder when I think of how I would have ended up if my mom (whose an english teacher) hadn't shoved books down my throat throughout my school years. Dr. Al-Kandari is quoted as saying that reading is the cornerstone of learning and I couldn't agree more. Teaching your children to love reading and to respect the written word is one of the best gifts you can give them. I think it is akin to that whole "teaching a man to fish" analogy. Teach a kid to read (and love it) and he's set for life. She did say that the Arab world had the worst education system in the world... I think that's a bit of an exaggeration... surely, its not the worst... What about Sudan? I'm sure we beat Sudan... or Benin or somewhere like that...

Saudi Arabia continues to voice its concerns about the "sectarian violence" in Iraq. They take swipes at Iran 'cos the Saudis have always hated Iran, but I think the real threat to stability in Iraq is Syria. I find it unsettling that Iran keeps blowing its horns about diplomacy in Iraq and US withdrawal and the whole time Syria remains silent, or in any case more silent than Ahmedinajad. Syria is backing whoever can pay it more; they love the fact that there's so much instability in this region. The real enemy to democracy here isn't Iran, its Syria.

mumblin' and jumblin'

One of my fave songs of '06 by one of my fave bands of all-time. The Killers are being nominated for two Grammy's this year... less than the five nods last year, but hey maybe they'll win one this time.

We're 3 days into the 007 (as 7tenths likes to call it), what do you guys think so far? Any bad omens been coming in? My friend found out her ex-boyfriend got married... before she did.... that seems like a bad omen if ever there was one... Have you guys been getting any bad omens for the new year? I haven't 'cos I haven't been anywhere and I haven't been doing anything... So, I guess, if anything, that's an omen that 007 will be just as yawn-inducing as 006... God help me.

Saw the vid for this song on VH1 the other day... I think it is one of the best videos I've ever seen. Its just as raw and unedited as the song is. I love that about it... the grainy-ness of it, shaky camera and all, is just perfect. I also really like the part with the guy smacking on the ... what's that bell thingy that goes on a drum set? Well, whatever its called, he's banging it with one of those mexican rattler thingies....?? Jesus on a cracker... I'm really bad with instrument names... anyway, its a cool vid. If I find it on YouTube, I'll embed it here.
