Edo Pride -- Bloggerette Style~

Since we bloggerettes invaded Purgatory's 'turf', I'm not gonna rub salt into it by doing 'tidbits'! Suffice to say, it was a great night.

Good food + good company = Righteously wicked evening

So, I have a pair of sandals. Sandals that, at one time, were my favorite. To make a long story short, these sandals were unwittingly involved in an experience that I would rather not be reminded of. So, after this experience, I kind of cut these sandals out of my life. They were banished to 'no mans land' AKA the back of my closet. I haven't seen them or worn them in probably two months...

Well, they came out tonight and I am happy to say we have officially reconciled.

P.S. That should have been my brag tonight!

..................................................................

You know that Meatloaf song "I would do anything for love (but I won't do that)"? What is the 'that' that he is talking about? I'm curious. I forget about it, then I hear the song somewhere and I get curious again. What is it that he won't do? ... Allow another man to join them in bed...? dress up in her lingerie and let her put make up on him?? WHAT IS IT?!??!

..................................................................

Ok... I'm gonna do it... Here come the tidbits!

'I wanna get a tattoo, but somewhere where I can't see it!'

'This "Blogger"!'

'You remind me of Uma Thurman'

'Shinoo? Listitik nafs listity!!?'

'Let's go down to the gutter'

'English! English!'

'I was jam3iying'

'I wanna see you translate that!'

'I'm pregnant and I can get away with whatever I want!'

'Pap reminds me of something else'

.... and the MOTHER of ALL TIDBITS......

'Hatha mai jooz shar3an!'

La Vie Boheme

- Funny, but true...

I was online this afternoon, trying to get my f*cked-up DSL to work properly when my cell rings. I look at the ID and see a jumble of numbers. My mom is in the states so I'm thinking maybe its her. I pick up and its this guy.

Him: Salam 3alaikum ikhty...
Me: Wa 3alaikum i salam
Him: Lo sima7tay? so2aal? Intay kuwaitiya?

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?! I'm thinking: "Int shakoo??" ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Me: Ee...
Him: So2al thany... hatha al-ahmidy?

?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?! I'm thinking: "Shi' salfa? Is he taking census or something?" ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Me: La2. nimr '3ala6. (I was starting to get pissed here so there was a clip of anger in my voice.. Plus he made me say it twice, which I hate)
Him: Inzain... aakhir so2al... Ishlon tabdee arqaam il ahmady?

?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Na3am?! Ish' shayifny?!?! badaala! ?!?!?!?!?!?!??!

Me: Ishdarani??
Him: Lo sima7tay ikhty.. mumkin as2ilich laish itkalmeeny ib ha 6areeqa??
Me: Ishlon?
Him: Abee a3arif into il kuwaitiyeen laish shayfeen roo7kum 3ala i so3oodiyeen chithi? Intay mo awal wala aakhir wa7da itkalim is3oody chithi.. Abee a3arif laish? chithi itridoon lina il jameel?

?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!!? I am in shock at this point.. ?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Me: Jameel shinoo bi thab6?!?! Shoof okhoy, int daag 3alay.. laat 3arifny wala it3arif thoroofy wala it3arif shay 3any! ana maanee fathiya ag3ad oo atnaqash wiyaak 6abi3 il kuwaitiyeen!

I shut the phone at this point.... Seriously, who the hell does this guy think he is?? Calling me out of the clear, blue sky AND he has the audacity to lecture me about the GCC-ness of my fellow kuwaities!? oo il mushkilla inna I wasn't even rude to him!! ya3ny ashkara daag oo ohwa mi7tar!

P.S. He was speaking with a thick Saudi accent... Its not recreated in the dialogue 'cos I'm not sure of most of the words, so I switched them with kuwaiti words.

P.P.S. My apologies to Skunk who can't understand this part of the post. If you really want to know what happened, ask me and I'll e-mail you the translated version. K? :)

.........................................................

Pssssssssssssssst..... Come Closer.... I got a secret.........
I've figured out where all the hot guys in Kuwait go to hide.......

Are you ready for this? .......

This is where they are........

Don't ask me why? but I was there the other night.... chock full of hot guys... hot guys looking at lounge chairs... hot guys contemplating picture frames... hot guys testing out beds! (can you say yum?!) and best of all, none of the hot guys I saw were with girls who looked like they might be wives!!!

Note to self: Must find more reasons to go to IKEA.....

...............................................................

No reason for this, but he's my favorite Rent character.....

New (Well, sort of..) Band Alert

So, the band is not really new. Their album How To Save A Life was apparently out last year. They have this new song (which plays on 99.7) called Over My Head. Good Song. Solid Lyrics. Catchy Melody. All around A+ song. I liked it (and as I usually do when I'm intrigued by a song, voice, whatever), I checked out some of the other songs on the album. There are some good tracks on there. Unsaid, All At Once and Look After You stand out as winners. My favorite has got to be Look After You. The lyrics, beautifully subtle... The yearning, so sublimely eloquent... The melody, so haunting & melancholy...

Here are some of the lyrics from it:

If I don't say this now I will surely break
As I'm leaving the one I want to take
Forgive the urgency but hurry up and wait
My heart has started to separate

There now, steady love, so few come and don't go
Will you won't you, be the one I always know
When I'm losing my control, the city spins around
You're the only one who knows, you slow it down

Don't take my word for it, check it out yourself....

Tubed to the Tube...

So, I've been ploughing through the second season of LOST. I went through the first one pretty quickly, all the while complaining to 7 about how boring it was. He kept telling me it'll get better by the second season and I was, at the time, unemployed so I figured 'what the hell?'... there's not much else on TV, so I'll see what everyone has been going on about.

Ok, first off, 7 was right, the second season is waaaaay better than the first. However, I do have some logistical problems with the show... mainly,

- Why the f*ck is everyone still hairless?!?! Ok, I get the fact that they found some razors on the plane, ok? I get that. But did they find a frickin' shipment of razors! There's no way we can be more than two months into their stay on the even-God-doesn't-know-its-here island and they still have an ample supply! Not one of them has opted to grow a beard! not one! And the girls!? they are still as hairless and gorgeous as when they landed! How the hell is that possible!? I find it hard to believe that every woman on the island found her supply of hair products.. I'm sorry, but I can't believe that... Even that freaky french chick from the jungle who's been there for 16+ years is still hairless with decidedly non-bushy eyebrows... Women who have succumbed to nature DO NOT look like that!

- Oh, and if Sawyer is such a great con man, how come he hasn't hustled everyone out of their supply of razors?? I'll tell ya why, its 'cos everyone on the island has access to the Huki-Lau Walgreens, that's why!

- Why did they kill of Shannon and Boone? I get that Shannon wanted to leave to do that movie, but why Boone?? Boone was useful... He was young, athletic, definite reproduction-partner material should they ever decide to thoroughly populate the island.. Why?!?! Plus, it didn't hurt that he is positively gorgeous... so, why kill him??

- My fave characters are: Saeed (just 'cos there's something about him that I find very attractive. And Sawyer (Those dimples, that body, that accent... *sigh*)

- So far my favorite episode has been the one where Evan Handler comes on to guest star as bald-headed, robe clad David. He was really good in that episode.

Ok... On to the next show. I have been fascinated with CSI ever since it first came out. I'm not talking about CSI New York or CSI Miami, those are cheap imitations. The original CSI: Vegas is and always will be the bomb! I love Grissom!! Love, Love, Love him... I like everyone else too, but he is amazing...

But how come every time they go to investigate a scene that's dark, they always pull out these teeny-weeny flashlights?? Don't they have anything bigger than that..? and another thing, how come it takes them forever to switch on the lights?? Its very dramatic, yes, but highly unlikely to occur in real life...

Anywho, I'm starting my new job at the beginning of August which means I have about ten days to go through Season 2 of LOST and at that point, I will proceed to cut the umbilical cord... wish me luck

Reviews and stuff--

Kleopatra by Karen Essex

This is maybe the third or fourth time I've read this book. It is an incredible book, by any standard. Historically authentic, the author takes you beyond the facts into the world that Kleopatra inhabited. The book chronicles her life from a child up to when she assumed the crown at the age of nineteen. It is a heady, intoxicating drama which draws you in and refuses to let go. It is the quintessential page-turner. When you read it, you feel as if you are truly in Alexandria or on a royal barge travelling up and down the Nile. The imagery that the author draws is impeccable, the words she chooses are perfect. For a debut novel, this is magnificent.

There is a sequel called Pharoah, which picks up where the first book leaves off. It is in this book that you'll find most of the imagery that is most frequently associated with Kleopatra; her marriage to Marcus Antonious, her meetings, courtship and subsequent marriage to Julius Ceasar (including the infamous rug scene) and the ending that pretty much everyone is familiar with. The sequel is a good book in its own right, but somehow I keep coming back to the first one, Kleopatra. There's something about this book that really appeals to me.

Conclusion: A must read... over and over and over again.

.......................................................

I'm reading Dispatches from the Edge by CNN Anchorman Anderson Cooper. The book is very gripping so far. I like his writing style. Its very fluid and symmetrical. I like how he hops back and forth through his life, from his beginnings as an anchorman to his childhood to his present-day assignments covering everything from wars to natural disasters. It is as if he is unstuck in time.

I had an odd thought though while I was reading the book. I was at a part where he discusses his experience covering the tsunami and all the disasters that followed. And I couldn't help but think. Hundreds of thousands of years ago, Mother Earth ruled her domain unequivocally. Human beings were insignificant in the grand scheme of things. As far as Earth was concerned, we were not a threat. Now, global population is at what 6 billion or something, up from maybe half a million at the start. Humans are very much a threat to Earth at this point. Perhaps that is the true reason natural disasters seem to be occurring much more frequently and much more dramatically than ever before. Its because, very much like a parasite, human beings are leeches; sucking and draining the Earth of everything she has. Taking, taking and never giving. The status quo has been forever altered.

Perhaps these natural disasters are Earth's way of defending herself.

All I know for sure is that no species, no matter how dominant, can take on an entire planet. If there is one thing that remains elusive and, in fact, indifferent to human progress, it is the weather. We can't control it, we will never be able to control it. One of these days, Earth is gonna blow her top... and my only hope is that I am already dead by then.
