La Verita
I am a half kuwaiti/half american girl living in Kuwait. I am perpetually suspended in the granite hollow that fills the space between two worlds... Not quite who I am, not quite who I want to be... Cat-lover, poet, music-nut. I currently hold a PHD in both BS and Smartass. In short, I pitch my tent in the median of life..

Respect

Ali G is funny here, I usually find him kinda irritating, but he does a good job on this one. Becks has got the personality of a wet sponge... Posh is cool though, she gets into it a bit.

My cousin and I are on a serious SBC trip at the moment... needless to say, YouTube is getting quite the work out...

New Rock

They're showing American Idol season five on OneTv at the moment. They just started with the studio shows, there's not even a top 12 yet (is it 12 or 16?) ... Anyway, The boys sang last week and when Chris Daughtry (an early favorite) sang Wanted Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi. Its a good song, in fact, its a classic and the judges responded very favorably to it.

But Randy called him current. He said that his style was similar to Bon Jovi and Matchbox Twenty... now, I can see that. He does sound very similar to Rob Thomas and if you listen to his new album, it is very reminiscent of early Matchbox 20, Nickelback and other so-called rockers... but is it current? I don't think so. I think that style is falling out of... well, style. Current, to me, brings to mind Fall Out Boy, Muse, Panic at the Disco, My Chemical Romance, Cute is What we Aim For.. bands like that, whose names are complex and whose songs have titles that run off the page... These bands feel current. Why? 'cos the beats are new, they're influenced by more than just an electric guitar. But I think the one element that truly distinguishes these bands and lends them their current-ability (?) is the fact that the lyrics are so tripped out. These songs are so verbous, the lyrics rarely rhyme and almost never make sense, but they make you bob your head and sing along (after googling the lyrics, of course)

So, I think for Randy to call Chris current is completely false, he's good, he's got a great voice, but he is nowhere near as ground-breaking (lyrically or musically) as the aforementioned bands.

k... that's all I have to say.

Happy New Year, bloggers... be good this year.

Mia Rocks!

Mia is responsible for my new look. You rock girl, is all I can say. It looks exactly like how I wanted it to look. So, thank you again and I apologize for bugging you so much during the process...

ok, on to some chit chat.

Is it just me or has the volume of road kill on our streets increased dramatically in the last few months? seems like everywhere I go, I see road kill.... I think its the cold... the cats' are committing mass suicide... poor things...

hmmm.. what else is going on?

oh, ok.... Attention: Shameless plug coming your way...

I saw how Delicately Realistic put a mini review of the Short Film Festival on her blog , the review is great, really it is, but for a more detailed account of the evening, check out next months Bazaar where I submitted a full review of the festival....

Ok, shameless plug over....

.......................................

I can't believe the year is over. That's it, 2006 is gone, just like that. Seems like I was just in New York, sitting in a Starbucks bitching about how 2005 was over... Doesn't it seem like the years' are flying by much faster or is it just me?

Me, personally, I think '06 went by too fast for me to attribute a feeling to it... I'm very neutral on this year... hopefully, next year will be good.

I don't know, but the consensus seems to be that '06 sucked big time. What do you guys think? Was 2006 a good year or not? I leave the why's and why not's to your own discretion...

I will leave you with a new year prayer my friend sent me:

"Lord, 2006 is over with us in our parents' houses, may 2007 not end until we are in our husbands' houses. Lord, may 2007 be a bitter year for all those not willing to propose to us. Lord, we are your faithful believers, daughters of your faithful believers, please bless us by shutting the traps of all those busy bodies who continuously ask us when we're gonna find someone who'll marry us!"

.... you can tell, my friend and I are pretty obsessed with marriage....

Adios, bloggers, Merry Christmas and Have a Happy New Year!

Ok, here it is:

"These were dark and terrible times in the Western world. The barbarian tribes were pouring into Europe and bringing down the Roman empire: the collapse of civilization in the West inevitably affected Christian spirituality there. Ambrose, Augustine's great mentor, preached a faith that was essentially defensive: integritas (wholeness) was its most important virtue..."

It's good

Borat...

The Man Behind the Borat...

... I have a confession to make... Sacha Baron Cohen is hot (his accent is sweet like chocolate)... but, somehow.. I find Borat even more attractive.....

I can't believe I just said that....

Big Pimpin'

Things have been mucho hectic these days...

been running around like a chicken with its head cut off...

Work has been crazy...

Been reconnecting with some people I haven't see in awhile...

Cruising around, breaking in my new car...

Ergo, no posts.

But I had to pop in for a bit and do some charity work... I mean, endorsing.

Tooomz is in Azerbaijan.... Most of you probably don't know where Azerbaijan is, most of the people I have told have not been convinced that Azerbaijan even exists. However, Google has assured me, and them, that it does.

I've been checking out her blog since she's been there.... I wouldn't have been convinced that Azer (As Tooomz has affectionately begun to call it) even had internet, but apparently it does... and a Mexx store.. and, apparently, knee high boots. Tooomz's camera has yet to capture a Starbucks though...

Anywho, pop over to Tooomzy's sight and let her know that even though she is in the country that is the declared and mortal enemy of Borat town, we still love her and miss her and can't wait till she gets back!
