Bush and The ever-present Axis of Evil....

This article from the Washington Post is truly disturbing. It talks about President Bush's plan to possibly resort to military action in Iran. Its an interesting article, saying that one of the main reasons for the administration's increased interest in Iran is that Bush wants to get this done before his presidency is over. In essence, he wants to achieve his objective of wiping out the "axis of evil" he kept going on about after 9/11. Personally, I think its admirable that as a President, he's following through on what he promised in 2001. Another part of me feels like he's going about it entirely wrong and that by the time he clocks out in November of 2008, the US will be the most hated country in the entire world, which isn't really good for anyone..

It seems to me that he's putting a lot on his plate... The situation in Iraq is no where near stable and he's already poking at another country. You'd think that at some point during his Bible study, he would have learned that patience is a virtue.

Here are some of my comments on the article:

-"The Bush administration is studying options for military strikes against Iran as part of a broader strategy of coercive diplomacy to pressure Tehran to abandon its alleged nuclear development program,"

Coercive diplomacy... there's an interesting term... sounds a bit oximoronic to me..

and "alleged" nuclear development program. Why is it alleged? I think Iran has pretty much admitted that it is developing nuclear weapons... or is this gonna be another case of war due to 'alleged' "weapons of mass distruction"?

-"The administration is also coming under pressure from Israel, which has warned the Bush team that Iran is closer to developing a nuclear bomb than Washington thinks and that a moment of decision is fast approaching."

And why exactly should Bush take the advice of Israel?? Oh, yeah 'cos the Israelies practically own America.

-"In January, the president termed a nuclear-armed Iran "a grave threat to the security of the world,""

Read: A grave threat to the security of Israel.

-"Bush insists he is focused on diplomacy for now, he volunteered at a public forum in Cleveland last month his readiness to use force if Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad tries to follow through on his statement that Israel should be "wiped off the map." "

Diplomacy is such a nice word. Meaningful and yet somehow completely vacant.

The Iranian President is as full of sh*t as Bush is. At this point, the Iranian President is making empty threats in oder to make a show of strength. He's not gonna "wipe" Israel off the map. He couldn't, not unless he wanted to wipe away a few hundred thousand muslims while he's at it.

-""The threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally, Israel," Bush said. "That's a threat, a serious threat. . . . I'll make it clear again that we will use military might to protect our ally Israel.""

Read: "I know you ain't tryin' to push up on my boo, nigga!"

-"The [Iranian] government, which maintains its nuclear activity is only for peaceful, civilian uses.."

Yeah, 'cos we all know how handy nuclear plants can be for making Pokemon lunchboxes...

-"[The Iranian government] has launched a program to reinforce key sites, such as Natanz and Isfahan, by building concrete ceilings, tunneling into mountains and camouflaging facilities."

Why don't they build their nuclear plants next to schools and Co-ops? The US would never even consider bombing them and hey, since they are clearly for 'civilian use', I would think that the closer they are to civilians, the better right?

-"Planners also are debating whether launching attacks from Iraq or using Iraqi airspace would exacerbate the political cost in the Muslim world, which would see it as proof that the United States invaded Iraq to make it a base for military conquest of the region. "

... Well, duh!

It's a good article, very indicative of how incredibly stupid the Americans have gotten and how naiive they are to think that everyone else has followed them into Stupid-ville.

ahh brinkmanship at its finest :D
and from both sides at that.

despite ahmedinajads rhetoric, the supreme council pulling his strings arent reckless idiots. it suits their purposes that the iranian public are stirred into a nationalistic fever if for nothing else but to forget the fact that theyre not benefiting one iota from soaring oil prices, despite being one of the worlds largest producers.
you dont want peace and calm when youve fucked up the past 25 years and your neighbours are all raking it in, while everyone in iran still drives first generation skodas.(hitler did this well, as does castro and even bush himself lol)
as for the US, they cant afford a second conflict, and i doubt its something theyre actually planning for, atleast not beyond the sanctions phase.

anyway i love watching the anti-us protesters denouncing "the great satan", in their brand new levis, with a mug of java from starbucks :D

haha good point :)

I agree on the Iranian thing too.. it is still a pretty vacant theat tho..
