Dashboard Confessional # 3: I got too much food on my plate...

I'm always astounded by talented people. I mean, truly talented people, not Britney Spears or David Spade or even Janet Jackson (who, pre- Super Bowl at least, was taken as a quasi-serious artist).. No, I'm talking about truly talented individuals.

Writers or authors can implant within me a feeling of awe and, at times, gut-wrenching envy. Dan Brown... when The DaVinci Code came out, I wanted to kill Dan Brown. How could one guy, one unheard of guy, write such an incredible story? ....
Mya Angelou, Harper Lee, e.e. cummings, Percy Shelley, W.H. Auden.... How could these people even exist? I read their stuff and it just perfectly embodies something that I feel or think and I'll just hate them for expressing it so well. It kind of feels as if they've stolen something from me. By expressing my emotion so perfectly, better even than I could have, I feel robbed. It's as if they've chipped away a little piece of my soul and sucked it into the page. It's like that feeling, that high you get when you first read a really great book and yet you hate the fact that you'll never be able to get that high off of the same book again. Simply because that high has been sucked into the pages, to rest forever between the lines, suspended in chapters...

Even though a good amount of my awe, and a considerable amount of my jealousy, goes to writers, the grand portion of my wonderment is stored for singer/songwriters. Because you see, it's not enough for the person to have a good singing voice. After all, plenty of people can sing. It's when they have the entire package. When they can sing, write lyrics and write music. It is at this point that I am floored. How can so much talent be crammed into one little person... or two or three..? It doesn't seem fair to me. These people are so effortless in the way they let go. They let go in a way I never can and don't think I ever could. They are unashamed... brave... highly tuned... effortlessly raw and uninhibited... Everything I am in my loneliest hours....

These are the people who breathe for me....

Jason Mraz
John Mayer
Rob Thomas
Dave Matthews Band
Jewel

Cirque de Soleil is W.I.C.K.E.D. ...

This show is pure, unadultered hotness.... Sensual, erotic, oddly funny and sublimely entertaining. A must-see for anyone going to Vegas.

......................................................................

In under two weeks I'll be back in K-town! I am soooooo psyched! I miss my local starbucks....

......................................................................

Man, we're almost in March... Do you guys realize that? It seems like yesterday I was standing in Times Square, freezing my a** off, waiting to ring in the New Year. I can't believe how fast time is flying by...

I feel like I have nothing to measure it by.

......................................................................

My creativity is shot... all I can think about is suitcases, flight numbers and checklists....

Although I have made quite an impressive dent in my checklists....

Pretty in Pink

This movie is a must-see. No doubt will end up on the shelf with classic comedies like; The Blues Brothers, Father of the Brides and the Monty Python classics (ok maybe not as clever as the Monty Pythons). Steve Martin is in T-O-P form in this film. His french accent is hilarious! Kevin Klines' accent is a little less convincing. I have no idea why Beyonce' Knowles is in this film. All she did was dress provocatively and flutter her eyelashes. Her name in the film was Xania...... Should've been Zeena if you ask me.... maalha ay daa3y bil filim...

But the movie was as good as it was promised. A definate must-see for all Steve Martin fans.

Fully Random...

FB, myself and a couple of our friends here in Boston went to the David Copperfield show at the Opera House last night. It is official... David Copperfield is a bad-a**! Fully entertaining, scintillating and engaging. I found myself in a state of child-like awe... It was like my innocence came rushing back to me. I'm not talking about behavioral innocence, I'm talking about rational and logical innocence. I didn't sit there wondering how he was doing everything he did or what the tricks behind it were. I just sat there in wonder and let the true, unclichéd magic of it wash over me in great tsunami's of hope and illusion. I was a kid again, reveling in the grandeur of something bigger than myself.

...........................................................................

FB and I have been getting into some pretty interesting conversations with the people we are in Boston with (who are, for all intents and purposes, male.) Anyway, we've been getting into a lot of conversations leaning towards the topics of marriage, relationships, honesty during the engagement period and partner check lists. In light of these conversations, I pose a few questions to you bloggers...

1. To the men, if, during the engagement, you chose to ask your betrothed whether or not she had had any past relationships... would you want an honest answer? assuming her honest answer is yes.... would you want to know the truth right then.. or would you rather just let sleeping dogs lay??

2. To the ladies, would you consider marrying a man considerably shorter than yourself?? (If you have a high-heeled shoe fetish, just imagine the horror before you answer)

3. Do you think that your partner checklist, as it currently stands, is too rigid and uncompromising?

4. To the men and women, would you rather your husband/wife-to-be were 'experienced' in the romantic domain or not? Suppliance of reasons why or why not are at the discretion of the commenter.

5. Would you agree that, no matter how you look at it, marriage is, in essence, a huge gamble?

.............................................................................
